In 1984, Gianni Ephrikian released “Chiquita”. Now a reputable conductor and composer of film music in Italy, he was surprised when we approached him about this release that we had picked up at a local flea market in Berlin Schöneberg almost 30 years later. Our label tries to situate old music into new contexts and it was clear that “Chiquita” should have a reissue. This resulted in a 2-year spanning collaboration between artists from various ages and musical backgrounds reinterpreting aspects of “Chiquita”while staying true to its root–fun, disco and dance appeal. “Mi Vida” is a groovy balearic house take, DJ Gigola reinterprets the original with vocals from the Barcelona-based band Habla de mí en presente. Rifts presents an italo-inspired floor filler featuring the catalan duo Tata Relena. Gerd Janson provides us with a classic dance edit, and of course the original, remastered versions will be featured on the record as well.

Crazy that it still plays ; ) What's It All About has been on repeat for at least half an hour.  So nice with the sunshine... and there's more of these upright & uplifting tunes on the LP. Also an interesting band setup. Jeff Beck's drummer Richard Bailey, next to Taj Mahals Steel drum player Robert Greenwich. Van Morrison & Richard Moorcock's bass buddy Kuma Harada meets Denny Diaz from Steely Dan and the Gap Band's Glen Nighhtingale on guitars. Oisbisa's man on keys Robert Bailey also in the boat.
